Children's smart watch Smart Baby Watch Q50 with a GPS tracker, or, as they are also called, Wonlex Q50, is quite popular among parents. However, some users may find the initial setup difficult. Our instructions in Russian will answer the most common questions: how to set up a children's smart watch with GPS Q50, how to connect it to a smartphone, how to set the time on the watch, and we will also help you prepare the gadget for use.

How to use your Q50

Before you can use your Baby Watch, it must be set up. Preparing for use and setting up your Q50 doesn't take much time.

In addition to the device itself, you will need:

  • Micro-SIM standard SIM card with positive balance
  • Smartphone or tablet with constant Internet access

Insert the SIM card

  1. Activate the SIM card using a smartphone or regular phone
  2. Disable the PIN code request and automatic loading of the operator menu on the card
  3. Top up your account and make sure the balance is positive
  4. Activate the Internet service on the SIM card (optional 3G, preferably unlimited 2G (GPRS/EDGE).
  5. Insert the SIM card into the slot, then turn on the watch. To install the SIM card, you will have to disassemble them, as shown in the images below.

You can then top up your account remotely via your bank's app, online payments or scratch cards.

The main thing is to save the watch number.

Selecting a mobile operator

A prerequisite for the operation of such a device as a children's watch with the Q50 tracker is the presence of a SIM card from a mobile operator. A number of requirements are put forward to it, namely:

  • support for GPRS mobile Internet at frequencies 900/1800;
  • tariff with the possibility of using about 20 megabytes per month;
  • disabling all paid services to save money;
  • The SIM cards in the smartphone and in the watch must belong to the same operator.

Purpose of the buttons

The watch looks like a thick bracelet with a display, three buttons on the right and one on the left, next to which there is a USB port for charging under the cover.

The first button is one of the main functional ones. Using it, you can make a call to the first programmed “hot” number by long pressing it. It's also a volume up key and a way to move up through the phone book.

The second button is also used for outgoing calls. Holding this button will make a call to the second programmed subscriber. A short press brings up a list of contacts and moves down through it. When your child moves through the contact list, you can call the selected number by long pressing this button.

The third button is to turn on/off and end the call. You also need to hold it down to record a voice message. It is worth noting that voice SMS from the parent’s smartphone is transmitted to the watch using the Internet through an application (similar to chat), and not through a mobile operator.

SOS button (left): just press it in an emergency for the watch to start communicating with the phones of those closest to you and send a signal. These numbers do not need to be selected or dialed, they are pre-set through the application.

How to make calls from Q50

Through the phone book:

  • press button number 2, we get into the phone book
  • select a subscriber by moving through the contact list using buttons No. 1 and No. 2
  • stop at the selected number
  • hold down button No. 2 - there is a call

Quick call (button No. 1 - mom, button No. 2 - dad):

  • press and hold the first or second button until the call is made

Display symbols

The OLED screen here is black and white, but it is quite enough to display all the information that the child needs. It is presented in the form of several pictograms below and above the electronic watch dial. Explanations of all icons:

  • Antenna - the smart watch is within mobile coverage area. Next to it is the signal level in the form of vertical bars of different lengths.
  • The letter “E” is the Internet signal level. Can be changed between EDGE and GPRS (G), used for more accurate GPS positioning.
  • The circle next to the Internet indicator shows whether data is being transmitted from the satellite to the parent’s smartphone. This is indicated by the dot in the middle of this circle.
  • The microphone icon is a signal that there are voice messages that have not yet been listened to.
  • Battery—battery charge level.
  • Line break icon—the device has been removed from the wrist. If the child does not put them back on within 3 minutes, parents will be sent a message about this along with the coordinates of the place where this happened.
  • Heart - the number of reward points that the adult sent to the child.
  • Little Man - the number of steps recorded by the pedometer is displayed to the right of this icon.

As you can see, all the necessary notations are easy to explain even to the smallest child, using analogies.

How to register Smart Baby Watch in the app

To register the watch, it must be connected to the parent's smartphone via software. It is difficult to answer unequivocally which program for the Q50 watch is better: each user has his own preferences. In fact, all beacon programs work identically. We recommend free software called SeTracker 2. It has a simple registration procedure.

The official app for the Q50 watch is available for iPhone and Android smartphones. Through it, you can contact your child, track location using GPS, or send a voice message.

  1. Log in to the AppStore or Google Play
  2. Search for “SeTracker 2”
  3. Install the official SeTracker 2 application
  4. Launch the application
  5. Select your region (in our case - Europe and Africa) and language
  6. Click the “Registration” button and fill in all fields with data

  • License. Here you enter the device identification code, which is printed on a sticker affixed to the back of the watch case or to the packaging box. This combination of numbers is also called a code. Do not confuse this with the IMEI, which may also be listed on another sticker. If there is a QR code, it is better to scan it by clicking on the scan icon in the “license” field on the right side.
  • Check. Your email address for registration. This is also a login. It is also needed in case of password recovery if you forget it.
  • Nickname. Nickname or name of the device owner. It has a length of 4 to 16 characters and may include letters of the Latin alphabet.
  • Password. It can only consist of numbers and Latin letters. Its length is from 6 to 12 characters. Remember it securely or write it down.
  • Password confirmation. The Smart Baby Watch app will require you to enter your password again to ensure you remember or write it down.

After filling in the fields with the required information, specify the region Europe and Africa again.

Read detailed step-by-step instructions with photos here: Setting up the Setracker 2 application.

After all these procedures, the smartphone and watch will connect automatically. If your phone does not see the clock or you encounter other difficulties, we recommend reading Solving problems when using children's smart watches.

Setting up the Q50 smartwatch in the SeTracker application

The SeTracker application is the main monitoring and management tool. Through it you can set all the necessary settings for the Q50.

  • SOS numbers. Here you register the numbers of the people closest to the child (parents or other relatives). They must be written in 10-digit (national) format, without an international code. If you press the SOS button on the watch, the device will call these subscribers one by one.
  • Back call. This name hides the real wiretapping mode. When you want to hear what your child is doing, you dial from the app and the device calls back to the specified number. While wiretapping is running, the Q50 will not respond to commands. The child may regard this as a device failure. However, more advanced children can understand from the lack of reaction that they are being listened to. Therefore, use this mode with caution.
  • Operating mode. Here you can select how often GPS data is sent to your device. The more frequently you transmit GPS information, the more accurately you will know where your child is. But this feature drains the battery quickly. There are 3 options for sending GPS data: once per minute, once every ten minutes or once per hour.
  • Reports. This section will help you when a child comes indoors and loses the GPS signal. At this point, the watch switches to LBS mode (location based on signals from base stations), which reduces accuracy. In the “Reports” section you can see the last location recorded by GPS (usually this is the location of the entrance to the premises).
  • Setting up SMS. Enter here the phone number to which the Q50 will send SMS in case of emergency (for example, if they have been removed from the wrist, a child has left the safe zone, or presses the SOS button). If you did not enter your contacts in the “wiretapping” section, in this case the watch will use the number from this section to call you back.
  • Contacts. Q50s have a built-in whitelist filter: they only accept calls from certain contacts, rejecting others. Contact numbers that are allowed to communicate with the watch are set in this section. As usual, they must be saved in the national 10-digit format.
  • Telephone. Baby Watch can also make outgoing calls, but the phones that can be called from it are also strictly specified in the application. Subscribers are selected from the list using button 2.
  • Language and time. At this point you need to set the time, select the language and location. When the watch connects to the Internet, it itself uploads data about the exact time.

You can read this information in detail with illustrations of the application here: General clock settings in the application.

Voice messages and incentives

Through your smartphone, you can not only make or receive calls to your child's device, but also send a voice message. The watch's own memory is sufficient to receive and store messages. The child will be able to listen to the message when he is connected, and then he will be able to record and send a response.

Another nice feature is sending rewards, or encouragement hearts. This way you can say “thank you” with one touch or simply show that you love your son or daughter. Read how to send here.

PREFACE

Smart watch GPS watches work with a micro SIM card with support for GPRS Internet (2G) by your operator. For the most stable connection, we recommend using SIM cards from Beeline or Megafon operators if you are in Russia. With MTS SIM cards, sometimes problems arise on the operator’s side as a result of which the watch does not see the network. To solve this problem, we recommend contacting your mobile operator or changing the SIM card to one recommended by us.

Cellular operators such as Tele2 or Yota do not support 2G Internet, but you can configure the operator's APN on the watch by sending an SMS command from the phone to the SIM number in the watch: pw,123456,apn,APN address,APN login,APN password#For example, for Tele2 it will look like this: pw,123456,apn,internet.tele2.ru#

In most cases, this works; if problems arise, we recommend contacting your mobile operator or changing the SIM card to one recommended by us.

There should be no PIN code set on the SIM card, otherwise the watch will not turn on.

The SIM card slot is located under the battery. Remove the back cover of the watch, carefully lift the battery and install the SIM card in the special slot. Replace the battery, close the lid and turn on the watch.

If after purchasing the watch it does not turn on, we recommend that you charge it from the mains; it is quite possible that your watch is in a “deep discharge” and therefore you need to give it time to turn on.

Install the Setracker or “Where are My Children” application on your smartphone by downloading it from GooglePlay or AppStore.

In the application, you will need to go through a simple registration by scanning the GPS watch registration number or entering it manually. Next, fill out the fields that the application offers you.

The GPS watch connects to the application using the Internet. Make sure that there is a positive balance on the SIM card in your watch. If there is no Internet on the SIM card in the watch, you can call your child without any problems and he will also be able to contact you.

When setting up phone numbers in the application, they must be entered using “8” and not “+7”. This also applies to setting up a call back (“listening”). If, when you send a call back to the watch, it does not call you back, it means you did not enter the number using “8” or there is no Internet on the SIM card in the watch.

“Operation mode” in the application settings allows you to set the frequency of sending GPS data to your smartphone. Sending too frequently will increase battery consumption. If you want to check where your child is now, you can simply go to “Maps” and click Check. It is not necessary to update GPS data every minute.

If you or your child cannot hear the voice when calling the watch, adjust the volume during the call using the buttons.

The SOS button is equipped with telephone numbers that will receive emergency calls from the child.

You can add up to 10 numbers to the phone book that your child can call from the watch.

Setting up allowed numbers in the application allows you to protect your child from unwanted calls from strangers.

The LBS function should always be turned on, as this allows you to receive a signal from cell towers when a child with a watch is indoors.

Setting up a geofence is a territorial restriction, when a child goes beyond it, you will receive an alert.

The reward function was created to reward the child, for example, for completed tasks or simply send him hearts, thereby showing that the parents miss you.

The alarm clock allows you to set 3 times.

The watch has a remote shutdown feature. The child will not be able to turn off the watch as long as there is a SIM card installed and the Internet is available on it. The parent can turn off the watch through the “Remote shutdown” function in the application.

Setting up messages in the application is necessary to receive system data about the low charge of the watch, pressing the “SOS” button and a message about removing the watch from your hand.

The “Find My Watch” function was created in case you forgot where you put your watch.

In the application you can restore the operating mode, which means resetting all settings to the original ones.

Advice:

The first few times the watch-phone needs to be fully charged and discharged. This is necessary to “boost” the battery.

Carefully:

Despite the water resistance class IP54 (protection from drops and splashes), the watch must be protected from exposure to large amounts of water.

Frequently asked questions from users

Before using a device, some parents search for information on the Internet so that they know what they will encounter when using it. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the most common user questions.

How much internet do you need?

In order to transmit data to the application, as well as receive commands through the program, Q50 uses mobile Internet SIM cards. Based on one month, according to the manufacturer Wonlex, they need 30 MB of Internet traffic. According to user reviews, they consume a minimal amount of traffic: within 10 minutes, 2 KB per transfer + unscheduled requests - from 4 KB to 91 KB.

How quickly does the battery drain?

According to the manufacturer, the Q50 charge should last up to 4 days in standby mode and up to 6 hours in talk time. But you should take into account that if the device uses GPS to determine the location of the child, the battery life is significantly reduced, especially if the signal update mode is set to every minute. As an alternative, you can use LBS. Read what it is here.

How to reset to factory settings?

You can reset the Q50 to factory settings using an SMS command that is sent to the phone number in the watch in the form of the combination pw,123456,factory#.

How to set the time?

When you connect your watch to your smartphone using the installed software, the time should be set automatically via the Internet. But if this does not happen, you can also use an SMS command by sending it from your phone to the Baby Watch number. In the text of the message, enter the combination pw,123456,time,Hour.Minute.Second,date,Year.Month.Day#.

For example: pw,123456,time,18.46.59,date,2017.09.17#.

The main way to set the time on the Q50 is the correct setting in Setracker in the “Language and Time” section. See details with illustrations here.

How to turn on GPS on your watch?

You won't be able to turn on GPS in the Q50 because it's not provided. This built-in technology works continuously and automatically searches for a satellite when the device is outdoors. If GPS does not work, it means that Baby Watch did not pick up a satellite signal in a closed space.

How to charge?

You can charge your children's watch using a micro-USB charger, which comes with your laptop or PC. Since the battery in them has a small capacity (420 mAh), it quickly gains a charge even from a not very powerful source. Do not use fast chargers or charge from the mains to avoid overloading and damaging the battery.

If the watch does not charge, then you need to establish the reasons: the battery has deteriorated, the battery is wet, or the contacts are damaged. In this case, it is worth contacting for repairs. Often the reason may lie in a damaged charging cable.

Sometimes, in order to see the indicator during charging, it is necessary for the battery to gain some energy. Do not immediately unplug and reinsert the USB cable into the device. Wait a while.

How to turn off Q50?

To prevent a child from accidentally turning off the watch with the button, this function is deactivated. They can only be turned off using the on/off button if no SIM card is inserted. You can turn off the Q50 in the application through the “Remote shutdown” menu item or by sending the SMS command pw,123456,poweroff# to their number.

There are other SMS commands that serve as an assistant in similar settings when the device fails or any parameters are lost. By sending these messages you can, for example, get GPS coordinates or reboot the Q50, as well as check IMEI or change the password. You will find a detailed table in the article SMS commands for Smart Baby Watch Q50.

Negative reviews

Despite a lot of positive characteristics, you should not neglect the disadvantages of such a device as a children's watch with GPS Q50. User comments contain the following information:

  • there are many fakes on the market that are quite difficult to distinguish from the original at first glance;
  • the silicone from which the strap is made gets dirty quickly;
  • The connector plug for the charger is not firmly attached;
  • the markings on the keys are quickly erased;
  • when the device is not outdoors, but indoors, localization may be inaccurate;
  • the battery is not securely fastened;
  • in order to insert a SIM card into the watch, you need to unscrew it (it’s good that a mini-screwdriver is included in the kit);
  • The watch can only be charged from a computer (no power adapter is provided);
  • You can enter no more than 10 contacts in your address book;
  • poor audibility during phone calls.

Problems connecting Smart Baby Watch Q50 to the Internet

It is possible that if the SIM card was purchased specifically for the Q50 and was not used in an “adult” device, you will have to set up the Internet on it. To do this, you need to send a special service SMS message to the phone number of the watch. The numbers 123456 do not replace any other combinations, but are used “as is”.

For Russia: MTS: pw,123456,apn,internet.mts.ru,mts,mts# Beeline: pw,123456,apn,internet.beeline.ru,beeline,beeline# Megafon: pw,123456,apn,internet,gdata ,gdata# Tele2: pw,123456,apn,internet.tele2.ru# Eta: pw,123456,apn,internet.yota# SMARTS: pw,123456,apn,internet.smarts.ru# BaikalWestCom: pw,123456,apn ,inet.bwc.ru,bwc,bwc# Motive: pw,123456,apn,inet.ycc.ru,motiv#

For Ukraine: Kyivstar: pw,123456,apn,www.ab.kyivstar.net# Life: pw,123456,apn,internet# MTS: pw,123456,apn,internet#

After the watch receives the SMS commands and applies them, a response message should be sent to your phone. This means that the setup was successful. Now reboot (turn off and on) the Q50. Now the Internet should work correctly on them.

If the response SMS does not arrive for a long time, try sending the command again, but replace the numbers 123456 with 523681.

We also recommend regularly checking your account status and the availability of your Internet connection.

Also, if the watch does not have Internet, you can find a solution to the problem in our tips: No network equipment, Internet does not work.

Problems with locating Smart Baby Watch Q50

In some cases, your Q50 will not show your GPS location correctly. Parents see on the map that their child is somewhere in China. This may mean that you may have missed an important step such as determining the time zone and language that are configured in the application.

In the SeTracker settings, select the correct time zone (for Ukraine it is GMT+2 or GMT+3, for Russia - depending on the region) and Russian language. After this, the location will be determined using GPS correctly.

Since almost all Smart Baby Watch models are identical, any problems that arise can be solved in one standard way or another. The article Solving problems when using children's smartwatches will help you with this.

If you have any questions about setting up the Smart Baby Watch Q50 (Wonlex), ask them in the comments, we will try to answer them.
