The best camera phones of 2022: DXOMARK expert rating

DxOMark 2022 is an independent expert channel that evaluates the cameras of modern smartphones using a laboratory method and makes a verdict on their quality. The resource has all the necessary equipment to make the assessment as accurate as possible.

Everyone wants to take high-quality and bright photos with a smartphone, and in order not to regret the purchase later, we recommend that you use DxOMark.

Tests on exposure, contrast, noise, blur, etc. help experts formulate an accurate opinion about a smartphone. These 10 smartphones are definitely the leaders in cameras for 2022. Let's find out what they are.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro (121)

This is not the first time that Huawei smartphones top the DXOMARK rating. So Huawei Mate 30 Pro took the honorable first place.

The main feature of the smartphone camera is the presence of a separate 40-megapixel module for video recording (wide-angle). The resolution of the main module for photography is also 40 MP. There is also a lens for 3X zoom with optical stabilization and an additional one for background blur.

Experts say that the Mate 30 Pro takes better pictures than the P30 Pro: during the day there is more detail in the corners, at night there is less noise and more high-detail images in general. And the P30 Pro, as we know, was previously one of the best camera phones on the planet.

Let's note the various filters, night and portrait modes.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.53 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2400×1176
  • Weight: 298 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: HiSilicon Kirin 990
  • Memory capacity: 256 GB
  • RAM capacity: 8 GB
  • Battery capacity: 4500 mAh
  • Rear camera: 4 modules
  • Front camera: 32 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

What is the Dxomark smartphone camera rating based on?

Experts evaluate cameras on a variety of parameters: bokeh effect, zoom, and even image quality before the photo is taken. HDR, the result of shooting in low light, the quality of recorded sound, as well as video and photography with a large number of people in the frame are tested.

More than 400 methods are used to determine the quality of cameras, and that is why manufacturers are trying in every possible way to get into the Dxomark rating.

Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro Premium Edition (121)

The appearance of Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro Premium Edition in the top was extremely unexpected - the smartphone immediately earned 121 points!

It is noted that this is the first serial smartphone with a module that has a huge resolution of 108 MP (optical stabilization is supported). Of course, by default it shoots in a much lower resolution (108 MP must be forced - this is normal, almost all companies do this).

In addition to the main sensor, it received four more: for macro photography, telephoto for portrait photography, telephoto with optical zoom and stabilizer, and wide-angle with a viewing angle of 117 degrees.

Excellent shooting is noted both with a sufficient amount of light and at dusk or at night.

iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB (117)

Apple smartphones are traditionally good at photography, as evidenced by the 117 DXOMARK rating points - we're talking about the iPhone 11 Pro Max model. True, all this also applies to another smartphone - the iPhone 11 Pro, since the cameras in these devices are identical.

The main noticeable difference from its predecessor is the new triple camera module, which consists of three sensors: telephoto module, wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle (f/1.8 + f/2.0 + f/2.4). Optical stabilization is present in two sensors - wide-angle and telephoto.

A new feature is the night mode, in which the camera takes several pictures at the same time, and then stitches them together, producing the highest quality result. And it works.

We note phase autofocus and 4K 60 fps shooting.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.5 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2688×1242
  • Weight: 226 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2 (nano SIM + eSIM)
  • Processor: Apple A13 Bionic

Night photography

Shooting late in the evening and at night is the most difficult operating scenario for all cameras. The matrices begin to go crazy, making up for the lack of light with noise. The noise suppressors, in turn, come to work and begin to “press” them: some devices do this more gently, while others, on the contrary, intensely crush the entire picture.

Difficulties also arise when there are large differences in light: in dark areas and bright ones - for example, a lamp. Because of this, in many pictures, instead of flashlights, you see a bright white spot - a typical flare. In general, highlights are not always a bad sign, but in night shots they especially attract attention.

Google Pixel 2

Pixel took one of the most striking images among its competitors. His colors are well chosen, there are no fatal highlights.

You can see faces on the crop. I'll spoil it: but, as it turns out, for some smartphones this is a rather impossible task. In theory, you will be able to recognize these people even when you meet.

The noise reduction work is especially noticeable in the sky: take a closer look at the dots that seem to make up the entire photograph.

But what causes unpleasant bewilderment are the lights. Highlights are automatically painted yellow, simulating a lamp. They are too bright and attract too much attention.

iPhone 7 Plus

The photo came out very dark. From the point of view of the time when it was made, yes, this is good. But from the point of view of publishing the photo, it’s not very good: the owner of the smartphone will most likely increase the brightness of the photo.

But the “seven” did a very good job of working out the details next to the door of the building on the left. True, if you don't get too close.

In the crop you can see how voracious the noise reduction is: the details are eaten away, and the whole photo seems to be painted in watercolors. It doesn't look very good.

iPhone X

The picture came out brighter - that's a plus. But how “ten” worked out the details of the facade next to the door of the left building... In general, not very well. The colors look faded and rather flat, here the “seven” did a better job.

On the crop you can see the same noise reduction. It does its job well, but the parts could have been eaten less well.

iPhone XS

Unlike old iPhones, there are no such highlights: you can see the illuminated details of the building facades, including the name of the store.

But the noise reduction XS is not comparable to its “Pixel” brother: too many details are still “eaten up”. But the lights don’t attract attention so much, which is a big plus compared to the Google Pixel.

iPhone XR

The result is identical to what the iPhone XS or XS produces. So no comments.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus

And here’s an outsider - you immediately pay attention to the traffic light: it’s generally not clear what the numbers are there. There is also very strong light on the building. This is not to say that the picture has become brighter in comparison with the XS or XR, no. It just has more neutral colors rather than the warmer tones of the iPhones.

The details are also very bad: you definitely won’t recognize these people when you see them on the street. Plus, typical S9 artifacts are visible in this: excessive sharpness adds strange lines where there are none. Sort of like that.

Xiaomi Mi 8

The Mi 8 produced a fairly neutral photo: there are no wild highlights from the S9, but it’s still far from the “Pixel” detailing. Also lacks brightness.

The smartphone's noise reduction doesn't work the same way as the Pixel's, alas. The details here are, of course, better than those of the S9, but not exactly chic. Xiaomi should definitely be praised for its color reproduction - it is very accurate, there is practically no difference with Pixel. But the photo is not impressive.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 12/256GB (117)

It would be strange if a smartphone from Samsung, one of the leaders in terms of cameras, did not make it into the top. The Galaxy Note 10+ received a whopping 117 points. As before, the Galaxy Note line boasts a stylus that is hidden inside the case.

This version has four main camera modules: wide-angle (f/1.5-f/2.4), ultra-wide-angle (f/2.2), telephoto lens (f/2.1), 3D depth camera. As you can replace, the aperture ratio for the main module is variable - this feature was also used on some of the company’s previous flagships (improves the quality of photography either during the day or at night). Also, optical stabilization is announced for the main (wide-angle) module.

Although the front camera is single, some experts call it perhaps the best on the market.

Huawei P30 Pro (116)

Not so long ago, this smartphone was the leader of the rating. Actually, this is still one of the best camera phones today, and at a fairly reasonable price.

The rear camera is represented by 4 modules: the main one with optical stabilization (40 MP, f/1.6), wide-angle (20 MP, f/2.2), telephoto lens with 5x optical and 10x hybrid zoom (f/3.4), ToF camera. As in other smartphones, by default the main module shoots in a much lower resolution - 10 MP, and 40 MP is forced.

Phase and contrast autofocus, laser autofocus are announced.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.47 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2340×1080
  • Weight: 192 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: HiSilicon Kirin 980
  • Memory capacity: 256 GB

The best camera phones in 2022

It used to be easy to choose a phone with the best camera. In the early days of smartphones, the iPhone camera was an order of magnitude better than Android smartphones. Then well-known brands with Android OS caught up with Apple, and for several years in the mid-2010s Samsung held the lead.

Subsequently, Google and Huawei dominated the software and hardware side of mobile photography. But starting around 2019, other brands stepped up their digital imaging efforts, investing more resources. Apple has put more emphasis on computational photography, while Samsung has taken some of Huawei's camera hardware solutions.

Samsung Galaxy S10 5G (116)

Let’s say right away that this smartphone, which supports 5G networks, is not officially sold here. It's a shame because it differs significantly from the regular S10: a ToF sensor (depth of field sensor) has been added to the main module. Also, apparently, the software has changed significantly, since the camera itself shoots much better than the Galaxy S10/S10+: more accurate white balance, much better blur effect, even more accurate autofocus, etc.

But the modules themselves remained unchanged: the main wide-angle with variable aperture f/1.5-f/2.4, ultra-wide-angle with f/2.2 aperture, telephoto with f/2.2 aperture.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.1 inches
  • Screen resolution: 3040×1440
  • Weight: 157 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Exynos 9820
  • Memory capacity: 128 GB
  • RAM capacity: 8 GB
  • Battery capacity: 3400 mAh
  • Rear camera: triple 16/12/12 MP + ToF
  • Front camera: 10 MP
  • Memory card support: yes

OnePlus 7 Pro (114)

The OnePlus 7 Pro also earned a fairly large number of points, although OnePlus smartphones usually do not reach the top level.

Why did OnePlus 7 Pro manage to score as much as 114 points? Thanks to the main camera, which received three modules: main (48 MP, f/1.6), wide-angle (16 MP, f/2.2), telephoto lens (8 MP, f/2.4). Optical stabilization is announced for two sensors: the main and telephoto module.

It is noted that OnePlus 7 Pro now takes great pictures not only during the day, but also at night. It is quite possible that the issue is the night mode, which is supported by these smartphones.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.67 inches
  • Screen resolution: 3120×1440
  • Weight: 206 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 855
  • Memory capacity: 256 GB
  • RAM capacity: 8 GB
  • Battery capacity: 4000 mAh
  • Rear camera: triple 48/8/16 MP
  • Front camera: 16 MP
  • Memory card support: no

Honor 20 Pro (113)

The 20 Pro is Honor's flagship smartphone, but when it comes to its price, it's more of a mid-range model. Nevertheless, it received a really decent camera, and the DXOMARK expert rating rated it 113 points.

How did you manage to win such a large number of points? The main camera has four sensors: the main one with optical and electronic stabilization and laser focusing (48 MP), wide-angle (16 MP), telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. The last module is for macro photography, its resolution is small - only 2 MP. It is believed that the last module is nothing more than a tribute to marketers, but even if so, the camera takes excellent pictures in any case, and even more so considering the cost of the smartphone.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.26 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2340×1080
  • Weight: 182 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2
  • Processor: HiSilicon Kirin 980
  • Memory capacity: 256 GB
  • RAM capacity: 8 GB
  • Battery capacity: 4000 mAh
  • Rear camera: four modules 48/16/8/2 MP
  • Front camera: 32 MP
  • Memory card support: no

Which camera phone is best to buy in 2022?

There is a popular saying: “The best camera is the one you have with you.” For almost everyone, it will be their smartphone camera—and we're lucky to live in an era where smartphone cameras have become so feature-rich. Sure, professional photographers will always scoff at the idea of a smartphone ever replacing the need for a real camera.

But for most people this is already the case. When you travel to tourist destinations, do you see more cameras or smartphones? The answer is clear.

Clearly, if you want the most versatile camera phone that covers all the photography basics, the Galaxy S21 Ultra is the one for you. However, if you want the best photos in all conditions, then the Vivo X70 Pro Plus beats even the Galaxy S21 Ultra in low-light and ultra-wide-angle shots.

If you're a longtime iOS user and fan and don't want to switch to Android, the iPhone 13 series is still the best, with a polished camera and some of the best HDR technology.

The fact is that in 2022, of course, new contenders for the title of best camera phone will appear and we will definitely write about them, but for today this is our rating of the best camera phones.

Samsung Galaxy S10+ (113)

The Galaxy S10+ scored an impressive 113 points. This also includes the Galaxy S10, since their cameras are completely identical. True, in some reviews, experts sometimes notice a slight difference between the same cameras of different smartphone models (this does not apply specifically to Samsung, but to other manufacturers as well), but this, I think, can be attributed to an error.

It uses a triple module: a wide-angle sensor with a variable aperture f/1.5-f/2.4 (12 MP), an ultra-wide-angle sensor with an aperture f/2.2 (16 MP), a telephoto lens with an aperture f/2.2 (12 MP).

The camera takes excellent pictures, not only during the day, but also at dusk or at night.

  • Screen resolution: 3040×1440
  • Weight: 175 g
  • Number of SIM cards: 2

  • Memory capacity: 128 GB
  • RAM capacity: 8 GB
  • Battery capacity: 4100 mAh

Total. To trust or not?

The guys from DxO Labs are undoubtedly great, but you shouldn’t rely 100% on their assessments. But their work certainly needs to be taken into account. Especially if you can’t decide between two already selected smartphone models and the determining factor for you is the quality of the camera.

One way or another, DxO doesn’t have bad cameras, so any phone in the TOP 5 of their rating can take great photos and/or shoot videos.

Google Pixel 4 (112)

According to experts, the Google Pixel 4 is still a great camera phone, but it still falls a little short - the photos do not reach the tops like the Huawei Mate 30 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro. But before, “pixels” were considered top-end camera phones. However, as they say, it’s not over yet - it’s quite possible that the camera will be “updated” programmatically with the help of firmware updates and then it will give the leaders of the rating a hard time.

Interestingly, previous generations of Pixels offered a single rear camera module. There are two of them: the main one with f/1.7 aperture (12 MP) and optical stabilization, as well as a telephoto lens with 2x zoom with f/2.4 aperture (16 MP).

Like its competitors, it has a night mode.

The manufacturer did not indicate the battery capacity, but indicated the battery life in different modes: listening to music up to 65 hours, playing videos up to 17 hours, watching videos in streaming mode up to 11 hours.

Waterproof rating IP68 according to IEC 60529 (allows immersion in water up to 6 meters for up to 30 minutes).

Support for two SIM cards, one of which is standard, and the other is eSIM, which in Russia is not yet supported by all operators.

As in the 11th iPhone, there are 2 main cameras of 12 megapixels, one of which is ultra-wide-angle with an aperture of ƒ/2.4 and a viewing angle of 120°, and the other is wide-angle with an aperture of ƒ/1.6. Optical stabilization.

The front camera is also 12 megapixels (ƒ/2.2).

The first thing you should pay attention to in the camera system is the excellent aperture ratio of the wide-angle camera - ƒ/1.6 (for the 11th iPhone this figure was ƒ/1.8, and, as you know, the lower this figure, the better the camera shoots in low light conditions). lighting). The manufacturer's website says that the new wide-angle camera is capable of capturing 27% more light. Night mode analyzes the surrounding environment and automatically turns on when there is insufficient light. You can now shoot in night mode with both the wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle cameras. The display has been improved (OLED instead of IPS, resolution 2532x1170 instead of 1792x828), new processor, support for 5G (however, 5G in Russia is not yet relevant, since its deployment in cities with a population of over a million is just beginning and will only be completed by 2022). 2024). Shooting in the dark has been improved. Autonomy remained at the same level, the unibrow has not gone away. In addition, headphones and a power adapter will now disappear from the package; you will have to buy them separately or use the headphones and adapter from your previous smartphone. The kit will only include a USB-C/Lightning cable. The manufacturer explains this with concern for the environment: “Due to this, we have reduced the size of the packaging, and more goods are placed in containers, which in turn reduces the overall volume of cargo transportation.”

Specifications: 6.1-inch OLED screen with unibrow. Resolution - 2532x1170. OS - iOS 14. 128 permanent memory (the amount of RAM is not specified by the manufacturer), without a slot for a memory card. 6-core Apple A14 Bionic processor with 5G support. The manufacturer did not indicate the battery capacity, but indicated the battery life in different modes: listening to music up to 65 hours, playing videos up to 17 hours, watching videos in streaming mode up to 11 hours.

Support for two SIM cards, one of which is standard, and the other is eSIM, which in Russia is not yet supported by all operators.

3 main cameras of 12 megapixels: ultra-wide-angle with aperture ƒ/2.4 and a viewing angle of 120°, wide-angle with aperture ƒ/1.6, telephoto (ƒ/2.0). There is optical stabilization.

The front camera is also 12 megapixels (ƒ/2.2).

As for the wide-angle camera, we can repeat what has already been said about the standard iPhone 12: the aperture has improved to ƒ/1.6, thanks to which the camera is able to capture 27% more light. Night mode analyzes the surrounding environment and automatically turns on when there is insufficient light. You can now shoot in night mode with both the wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle cameras. The selfie camera also has a night mode.

The iPhone 12 Pro camera received a Dxomark score of 135 for photography, 66 for zoom, and 112 for video. The overall score is 128. The selfie camera received a score of 101 for photos and 93 for video.

The minimum amount of memory for the iPhone 12 is 64 GB (there is a 128GB version of the iPhone 12, it costs 85 thousand), and the Pro version has 128. The Pro version has three cameras instead of two in the standard version. All other characteristics (processor, screen, battery) are identical. Therefore, if you compare the iPhone 12 128GB and the iPhone 12 Pro 128GB, then in fact the difference is only in the quality of photos and videos.

If we compare the iPhone 12 Pro with the iPhone 11 Pro, the new version has a better processor, cameras, water resistance, a larger screen, more memory in a minimal configuration.

8th place.

Apple iPhone 13 128GB

The average price in Russia is 120,000 rubles.

The start date of sales in Russia is September 24, 2022.

Specifications: 6.1-inch OLED screen with unibrow. Resolution - 2532x1170. The manufacturer did not indicate the battery capacity, but indicated the battery life in different modes: listening to music up to 75 hours, playing videos up to 19 hours, watching videos in streaming mode up to 15 hours.

Rated IP68 according to IEC 60529 (submersible in water up to 6 meters for up to 30 minutes). However, damage resulting from contact with liquid is not covered by the warranty, so it is unlikely that anyone would think of testing an iPhone at a depth of 6 meters.

There is no fingerprint scanner, instead there is facial recognition using the TrueDepth camera.

Supports two SIM cards, one of which is standard and the other is eSIM.

As in the 12th and 11th iPhones, there are two 12-megapixel main cameras, one of which is ultra-wide-angle with an aperture of ƒ/2.4 and a viewing angle of 120°, and the other is wide-angle with an aperture of ƒ/1.6. Optical stabilization system. The iPhone 13 camera scores 138 for photography, 55 for zoom, and 117 for video on Dxomark. The overall score is 130. The Apple iPhone 13 mini has exactly the same results.

The front camera is also 12 megapixels (ƒ/2.2). The selfie camera scores 102 for photos and 95 for video on Dxomark. The average score is 99.

Let's look at the differences between the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 12. New processor and new OS, improved battery life (for example, the iPhone 12 had 17 hours of battery life while watching videos, and the iPhone 13 had 19 hours), which still does not reach the iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro Max. This seems to be where the important differences end, because The cameras have the same characteristics as the iPhone 12, the same unibrow and everything else. Judging by the fact that the iPhone 12 was much more different from the iPhone 11, Apple clearly has a crisis of new ideas.

7th place.

Waterproof rating IP68 according to IEC 60529 (allows immersion in water up to 6 meters for up to 30 minutes).

There is no fingerprint scanner, instead there is facial recognition using the TrueDepth camera.

Support for two SIM cards, one of which is standard, and the other is eSIM, which in Russia is not yet supported by all operators.

Three main cameras of 12 megapixels: ultra-wide-angle with aperture ƒ/2.4 and a viewing angle of 120°, wide-angle with aperture ƒ/1.6 (optical stabilization), telephoto (ƒ/2.2). Front camera 12 MP (ƒ/2.2).

The cameras are almost the same as in the iPhone 12 Pro, only the Max version for some reason has worse aperture (ƒ/2.2 versus ƒ/2.0 for the iPhone 12 Pro), while the zoom characteristics have been improved: if the model had a 2x optical zoom and a 10x digital, then the iPhone 12 Pro Max has an optical zoom of x2.5, and a digital zoom of x12.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max camera received a Dxomark score of 138 for photography, 88 for zoom, and 106 for video. The overall score is 130. The selfie camera received a score of 101 for photos and 93 for video.

Other differences between the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the iPhone 12 Pro: a much larger screen (6.7 inches versus 6.1), a more powerful battery, a slightly larger screen resolution (2778x1284 versus 2532x1170).

DxOMark is a logical continuation of the activities of the French company DxO Labs. This company develops software and manufactures equipment for measuring and evaluating the performance of photographic equipment.

And even with your own devices. They released DxO ONE, a 20 megapixel external camera for the iPhone with good performance.

Huawei P20 Pro (109)

To be honest, this model is already quite difficult to find on sale - after all, the P30 Pro was released a long time ago, so if the P20 Pro remains on the market, it is only in the form of remnants.

Meanwhile, this is still a cool camera phone! Pay attention to the three modules of the main camera: the main one with f/1.8 aperture (40 MP), monochrome with f/1.6 aperture (20 MP), an RGB sensor with 3x optical zoom and optical stabilization with f/2.4 aperture. Do you see the difference from more modern smartphones? With all this, the P20 Pro takes great pictures.

How to choose a smartphone with the best camera

Together with our expert, professional photographer Yulia Kuryashkina, we will dwell in more detail on matrices and pixels, and also determine what the buyer should pay attention to when choosing a camera phone model.

If you look at the characteristics of any smartphone, you can come across a lot of abbreviations that are incomprehensible to the average person.

For example, 1/1.33″, 108 MP, 0.8 microns, etc. This is a description of the matrix: its dimensions, number and size of pixels, in other words, important parameters for high-quality photography.

The size of the matrix is responsible for the amount of light that ultimately enters it. The more light it captures, the better the image is transmitted to us. The diagonal is measured in inches, in the example above it is 1/1.33″, and the smaller the last number, the more light the matrix of our camera phone will receive.

In addition to the characteristics of the matrix, which indicate the quality of future images, you should pay attention to optical stabilization. It is this that allows you to avoid a blurred image due to the movement of an object or a trembling hand.

In turn, the number of megapixels is the figure that was previously used to rely on when choosing the best device for photography. Today, flagship smartphones can have more than 100 megapixels (as in the example above - 108MP). A pixel , in simple terms, is a light-sensitive cell that forms an image. Megapixels are used to measure the resolution of a matrix. The higher it is, the better quality photo you will get. The photos come out clearer, more detailed, and not “soapy.” Not only the number of megapixels is important, but also their size. Pixel size is measured in micrometers (µm). In modern devices, the spread can be from 0.8 to 2 microns.

The number of lenses should also be assessed. In addition to the standard main and ultra-wide modules, the device may have a macro lens for shooting small details; and a telephoto lens, on the contrary, for high-quality shooting of distant objects. Most camera phones today have three or four lenses.

Models should be compared by several indicators at once, without focusing only on “big” numbers.

You cannot evaluate only one characteristic in a camera phone. Because for high-quality photography, the number of megapixels must be correlated with their size, the diagonal of the matrix should be as wide as possible, and optical stabilization is preferable to hardware.

Does the number of pixels indicate the quality of a camera?

Of course, this is one of the important characteristics. But it does not determine the quality of a smartphone camera. As we wrote earlier, it is important to consider the size of the pixels.

iPhone XS Max 256GB (106)

The iPhone XS Max takes pictures at a very high level - this is unlikely to come as a surprise to anyone. Let us only note that all of the above also applies to the younger iPhone XS model, because they have the same cameras installed.

The camera module is double: a main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a resolution of 12 MP, a telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture and a resolution of 12 MP, as well as 2x optical zoom.

Interestingly, the camera's characteristics are similar to those used in another model, the iPhone X. However, the camera software in the XS is much better.

Macro photography

As it turned out, the most difficult stage for our competitors. I didn't expect so many different options. Almost every smartphone has defined the color red in a very unique way. Many found it difficult to tell the difference between red and orange, causing the leaves to simply turn into a red mush. But now you will see everything for yourself.

Google Pixel 2

“Pixel” has the most true color rendition. The colors are not bright like in photos taken with iPhones, and not as faded as in Samsung and Xiaomi. This photograph is distinguished by its volume - the wall is the correct brown color and without lighting defects.

According to the standard, everything is fine and with detail on the crop: you can easily see the pores of the leaf, there are no artifacts on its border - the matrix worked perfectly.

iPhone 7 Plus

Here come the eye-rolling options. The orange stripes on the sheet are not visible at all - they have merged into an incomprehensible color mess, and the photo itself looks oversaturated. Very bad.

The crop shows artifacts at the border of the sprout and the leaf - the photo appears to be blurred, but this is not the case, since pimples on the leaf are visible.

iPhone X

This picture already looks nicer: the orange color is not so “eaten up” by the matrix, which does not understand what is happening at all.

The detailing on the crop is also better than on the “seven”, but the colors are generally scary.

iPhone XS

What happened here is unclear. The leaf I spray is red, not orange. Immediately the image processing coprocessor simply went crazy and colored the picture in a very unique way. From the point of view of impartiality of information transfer, the two new iPhones did the worst job.

But in terms of detail, it’s a little better than the “ten”. But that doesn't make the photo good. Apple, don't do this.

iPhone XR

The situation is similar to the previous photo. There is nothing to discuss here.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus

The smartphone highlighted the photo. Apparently, it is really difficult for the coprocessor to understand the color palette of the image, which consists of predominantly warm colors: brown, red, orange. However, the sheet still came out too orange.

The added sharpness did not help here either: the leaf on the crop became very flat, its bends can only be guessed from the few shadows that Samsung was unable to highlight.

Xiaomi Mi 8

Who knew that the best picture after Pixel would be taken by Xiaomi? The colors are as close as possible to a Google smartphone, they are almost as true as on the Pixel. At the same time, the picture is not overexposed, like the S9, so it is also three-dimensional. Mi 8 did a great job.

On the crop, everything is fine with detail: there are no artifacts at the boundaries of objects, the pimples of the sheet are visible, and its bends are also noticeable.

Asus ZenFone 6 (104)

As far as we know, Asus ZenFone 6 is not officially available on our market at the time of writing. It's a shame, because this is a very interesting smartphone.

The main feature is a special rotating mechanism for the main camera, thanks to which ZenFone 6 does without a front camera.

The camera itself is double: a main module with a resolution of 48 MP and an aperture of f/1.79, as well as an ultra-wide-angle lens with a resolution of 13 MP.

Laser autofocus is claimed.

HTC U12 Plus 128GB (103)

The model is not new, but its main camera is very good.

The flagship HTC received a double main module: a main sensor with a resolution of 12 MP and an aperture of f/1.75, an additional one - a telephoto lens with a resolution of 16 MP and an aperture of f/2.6 with 2x optical zoom.

It is impossible not to note the presence of a dual front camera, although in terms of photography it is far from the best.

  • Screen diagonal: 6 inches
  • Screen resolution: 2880×1440
  • Weight: 188 g
